Offshore Transport

The replacement of the entire crew on service platforms or ships is one of the standard requirements for the operation, maintenance and construction of new wind farms. Crew replacement should work according to a routine, time-saving, safe and cost-sensitive manner.
HeliService stands for time efficiency, security and maximum availability. We ensure that significantly higher, productive working hours of the technicians are available on site offshore.

Helicopter transports are enormously time-efficient. From passenger check-in to arrival on a wind turbine, around two thirds of the transfer time can be saved compared to transport by Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs). This in turn can be used for significantly higher productivity on site.
While CTV’s are no longer operational from a significant wave height of 1.5-2 m, helicopters can act almost weather-independently. This is reflected in the availability rate of helicopters with approx. 95% compared to CTVs with an availability of approx. 60%
The advantages of helicopter transport are also clearly evident in terms of safety. As the Data Reports of the “G+ Global offshore wind Health and Safety organization 2016” show, the loss of working hours due to injuries during transport by a CTV is far higher than that caused by air transport.

The transportation of passengers and cargo across the sea is subject to stricter conditions than those already provided for in commercial aviation. This is not the only reason why safety is paramount at HeliService. In addition to the most modern helicopter fleet over the North and Baltic Seas, this reliability is guaranteed by the highly qualified ground and flight personnel. Daily flight operations ensure HeliService pilots have a maximum amount of offshore flight experience. In addition, they undergo regular training in the world’s most advanced helicopter flight simulators to be prepared for extreme situations at any time.

HeliService’s offshore transportation services include the carriage of cargo and material to offshore wind nacelles and platforms, passenger transportation and the complete crew change. HeliService also includes wind farm hoist operations among its core offers. In addition, HeliSerivce is supporting the work of the Alfred Wegner Institute on the RV Polarstern icebreaker with two Airbus helicopters.
